Senator Arlen Specter, Republican from labor-friendly PA, announced that he will not support the Employee Free Choice Act.

Just as importantly, Specter said he will not support a motion to cut off debate — a key legislative step for passage of the act. Specter had been counted upon as one of the 60 votes supporting the act in the Senate

  1. Starinin Says:

So, what’s their point? Unions were needed years ago when there was a shortage of good labor laws. We now have more labor laws then we need. Unions have become and unnecessary evil. Way too many people don’t even know what unions really do or stand for yet they are all for them.

Most of the unions are having problems at this time because of what they have lost in the stock markets. Guess how they are making up their losses? Right, by taking more money from the workers wage packages and making the employer pay more in contributions.

  2. LEU Says:

He knows how onerous this legislation is – he’s just posturing to get re-elected next year. He’s a RINO – get rid of him PA.

  3. Yoli Says:

THANKS SEN. SPECTER!!!!! Our country needs people like you who are sane and willing to keep the jobs here.

  4. Ray Says:

I agree with Starinin, whats the point.

Look at the Union auto makers. What has the Union done for them.

We have laws to protect employees, we do not need the Unions telling us what to do and taking our money to line their pockets.

Thank you Sen. Spector for standing up. Wish there were more like you.

Sen. Sarbanes (D-Maryland) send me an email message supporting EFCA. My previous letter to him listed in HR terms my opposition to this legislation. His response was so condescending and out-of-touch with my experiences, I feel inclined to vote otherwise when re-election time arrives.

  6. Mark Reif Says:

Tom, DO vote Sen. Sarbanes out of office when re-election time arrives. The only way we are going to get our elected officials to listen to the people they are supposed to be representing these days , (which they are absolutely NOT doing now) is to vote them out of office. Just DO IT. Let’s get a new crew in the White House and Congress, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll get out message across. To every Elected official – YOU ARE THERE TO REPRESENT YOUR CONSTITUENCY, NOT WHAT IS POLITICALLY EXPEDIENT FOR YOU!

  7. Mark Reif Says:

Also, Jim Giuliano, I thought Arlen Specter changes his affiliation to a Democrat now, even though his constituency voted him into office as a Republican. Am I right? I agree 100% with his vote not supporting the Employee Free Choice Act because it is only a smoke screen to make it virtually impossible for a Company to try and stay Union free. The bill is a “payback” for Union’s help during the last Presidential election. And the others who have commented are correct – Unions are superfluous entities today.
