Formal social media policies aren’t catching on: Study

There’s certainly been enough talk in recent months about companies drafting social media policies. So how come so many employers still don’t have them?

Only 20% of companies worldwide have social media policies, according to a recent survey conducted by employment services firm Manpower.

Many of the firms with policies cited “protecting their company’s reputation” as a reason for drafting a policy. But only 4% of companies surveyed reported having their reputations negatively affected by social media use.

Where policies were more effective: productivity. Over 60% of employers said social media rules were effective in combating lost productivity.

Maybe that’s the stance to take when you appeal to upper management to put a policy in place.
