I have another view on the 'gossip' portion of this article. I find, as an HR professional, while I don't want to be a part of the actual rumor mill - I do, however, find it useful to find a way to be in the undercurrent of gossip as a way of keeping pulse of some of the more obscure issues rumbling beneath the surface. I believe a true leader / manager will be able to successfully traverse this line to find a way to 'tap into' this knowledge area as a way to determine what can be potentially harmful to the company internally or extermally... just another view on 'gossip' ;) One way i to have at least one 'source', i.e., informant - who can help you do that w/o getting involved.
