The future of the Department of Homeland Security’s E-verify program is uncertain, as various groups battle in courts and Congress to decide on funding and the program’s legality. Have you ever used the program? Would you consider it if the program got extended?

Have you used the E-Verify system to check someone's employment eligibility?

  1. Debra Ramirez Says:

We ahve been using the e-verify system since January 2008.
It is fast and easy to use. I no longer worry about receiving false documentation and putting our company at risk.
I don’t know why everyone doesn’t use it. Why take the chance?

  2. Jeanette Says:

I have had zero problems with it in the 13 months I’ve been using it. Sure beats trying to make a good faith effort in determining document authenticity.

  3. Linda Messner Says:

E-verify is an awesome tool. I would hate to see it taken away from us.

  4. Sylvia Says:

I total agree with the above notes, it is easy, has few problems, and takes away the risk of false documents to Companies trying to comply with current laws. If you do get a nomatch you can print the form for the employee to take to the Social Security Office and get it corrected. By posting the note in the front office we get very few who are not legal even applying for work.

  5. Rose Says:

We have been using it for almost two years now. It’s a great tool. I don’t understand what the negative hoopla is all about, it works fine and is definitely doable.

  6. Chyrel Says:

I was involved in the pilot program and have continued to use E-Verify. It must stay!!!

  7. Cindy Says:

Have used it since July 2008. Great tool! Easy to use and removes the guesswork from I-9 issues! I would hate to lose this service.

  8. Laura Says:

Since Arizona mandated use of it 1/1/08 we’ve been using it. It works just fine. I agree with Rose, I don’t understand the negativity with it. It works for us with no major issues.

  9. Tom Says:

We have not used it, but our State Legislature mandated use starting in January 2009. More bureaucratic regulations to comply with and no guarentee of immunity from prosecution if an illegal alien slips through. One more step toward total control of the “means of production” by the government.

  10. Patricia Says:

I support HR 5515 New Employee Verification Act (NEVA). SHRM is behind it and I agree wholeheartedly!

Employers can use the state “new hire” reporting process, which is currently used for child support enforcement, to access EEVS. This would allow employers to confirm the work eligibility of U.S. citizens through the SSA database and that of non-citizens through the DHS database.

Everything can be done electronically and it eliminates the I-9 altogether. If they can eliminate the I-9, think of the time, paper and storage that can be saved for employers. Everyone wins. Why not use a system already in place that already works instead of having an entirely separate database run by DHS that is still based on paper identification? I think the E-Verify system is wasteful and amounts to unnecessary government spending to have two separate databases when we can use the one in place for child support. Why have an extra step when the new hire reporting is done anyhow?

I was disappointed when the E-Verify system was given another 5 years.

The only ones opposed to it are the illegals it is meant to weed out.

  12. Deborah Kopki Says:

We have been using the e-verify or its original name the basic pilot program since 2001 and have had no problems at all. Makes employment verification a snap!

  13. Robert Says:

E-Verify works extremely well, we have been using it since it first started as Basic pilot Program.
It is fast and easy to use, and takes the “guess work” out of who is legal and who is not.

I DO NOT think it should be used to go back and verify previous employees, it should be for New Hires only.

  14. Cindy Says:

Our company has been using E-Verify since Jan. 1, 2008, and it is a fantastic tool/program. It is very easy to use and helps protects the company! It is a great program!
