Physicians are being asked plenty of questions about health reform, according to the American Medical Association. And soon those questions are expected to be aimed at employers. But what will you tell workers when they come knocking?
The good folks at Benz Communications have created an employee announcement template benefits pros can download. It acts as a general guideline to walk you though communicating the effects of healthcare reform to your employees.
Some of the highlights:
- Set the tone for future plan changes by telling employees what you know right now — like while certain provisions kick in as early as January, 2011, most of the mandates don’t take effect until 2014 and beyond.
- Let your workers know the feds will be issuing more detailed guidance in the coming months and that you’ll issue company updates as soon as you learn more. Tip: Set a realistic time frame — like “Expect this to take 2-3 months” — workers will hold you to it.
- Stress that reform won’t change your commitment to providing employees with competitive benefits.
