In Poland, actors are being paid to line up outside stores selling Apple’s new version of the iPhone.
A wireless carrier there has confirmed it’s paid actors to form fake lines in front of 20 stores around the country to drum up interest in the iPhone. And these aren’t just any actors. They have to be young and “look hip.”
It doesn’t sound like a bad marketing technique — that’s until some of those paid to stand in line offered to pay others as much as 300 zlotys ($135) to take their place.
Some of these actors may be too young to remember real lines for food when Poland was under a communist regime. For older people who remember the food lines, you have to wonder whether seeing lines for the iPhone would actually be a turn off.
