When an unidentified thief needed help robbing an armored truck at a Bank of America branch in Monroe, WA, he did what anyone might do when in need of staff: He placed an ad on Craigslist. And it worked.
According to news sources at the Seattle affiliate of NBC, the thief, using pepper spray, disarmed guards and made off with an undetermined amount of cash while disguised in a yellow safety vest, safety goggles, a respirator mask and an industrial-type blue shirt.
Here’s where the recruiting part comes in. Days before, the robber apparently placed an ad on Craigslist offering $28.50 an hour for road maintenance workers. Applicants were told to report ready to work outside the Bank of America branch and to wear — you guessed it — yellow safety vests, goggles, respirator masks and blue shirts. About a dozen people showed up for the “job.”
In the confusion over who was who, the thief made his getaway by — get this– paddling an inner tube down a creek that feeds into the Skykomish River. Police have found the getaway inner tube. They’re looking for other clues, including the names of unemployed former HR managers. (OK, we’re just kidding about the last part.)
