Ever have workers complain about their department being understaffed? A New York City court clerk with that complaint caused a temporary ruckus when she closed down her office for the day and caused a brief panic for a couple when she refused to marry them.
Gwendolyne Ortiz was left standing in the office of the Marriage Bureau at Bronx Supreme Court in her white wedding dress — her groom, Harold Poueriet, in his gray pinstripes, according to the New York Post.
The bride, choking back tears, was quoted as saying the clerk was upset with staffing.
As is the case when many employees refuse to do their work, someone else stepped in to do it for the clerk.
Judge Paul Victor tied the knot for the couple in his chambers.
The Bronx Marriage Bureau faced some bad publicity over closing early just one year ago.
In May 2007, couples claimed the clerks closed the doors 45 minutes early for a co-worker’s retirement party.
So, what do they do when a co-worker gets married?
