This isn’t your usual case of workplace theft, because the items taken were from a police department’s evidence room.
Two married non-uniform employees of the St. Petersburg, FL, police department have been disciplined, and one has been fired in connection with the thefts.
Christine Adams worked as a clerk in the department’s property and evidence room for three years. She admitted taking two cell phones. However, an investigations board found she wasn’t telling the whole truth, so she was fired.
Her husband, Steven Adams Sr., who also worked in the evidence room, admitted taking small amount of ammunition and expired pepper spray as well as other items awaiting destruction. The investigations board said he was totally honest about the situation and took responsibility. He received a 20-day suspension and was ordered to have no family members visit him at work.
How did police find out about the thefts? Police searched their home after detectives suspected their son, Steven Adams Jr., was involved in illegal drug activity. He was arrested on various drug and weapons charges, according to WTSP-TV.
During the search, police turned up some of the missing items from the department’s evidence room.
