Another company has learned the hard way: Showing any signs of bias in the hiring process can carry a huge price tag.
An Indiana staffing company recently settled a lawsuit for $580,000, which’ll be divided among 15 job applicants who say they weren’t hired because of their race or age.
One big mistake the company made: failing to hang on to applications and other documents required by federal recordkeeping laws. According to the suit, the company purposely destroyed the minorities’ applications to hide evidence of discrimination.
The settlement also includes money for two current employees who claimed they were retaliated against for opposing the biased practices.
