It’s getting easier for potential job candidates to learn more about your company — especially negative comments from disgruntled current and former employees.
One of the latest Internet trends involves so-called “rant sites” that let users air grievances about companies they’ve worked for.
Here are some of the most popular sites:
- Telonu — Pronounced “tell on you,” this site lets users review employers anonymously, as well as post rumors about upcoming layoffs.
- Glassdoor — In addition to employer reviews, employees can reveal their salary information for users with similar positions to benchmark against.
- Criticat — Using the motto “Your company reviews you annually but you never get to review your company,” Criticat describes itself as a place where workers can publicly advise companies on how to better manage their employees.
The good news: Browsing through those sites shows they contain about as many positive reviews as negative rants.
It’s not clear what, if any, impact these forums have on job seekers’ decisions. But as the sites become more popular, they could play at least some role in candidates’ career choices.
