It’s not unusual to see employment ads that mention types of previous experience that applicants should have. So, if you were placing an ad for drug smugglers, would you request previous military experience?
That’s exactly what radio ads in a remote part of Guatemala contained.
The ads seek ex-members of an elite military corps known as Kaibil soldiers. “We invite all citizens who have served in the military and graduated as Kaibils to work securing vehicles transporting merchandise to Mexico,” the ad said, according to wire service reports.
That merchandise is mostly likely cocaine traveling from Columbia, through Guatemala and Mexico, to the United States.
As part of their training, the Kaibils were made to beat raw dog guts. They were accused of massacres that left more than 200,000 dead during the country’s civil war.
The former soldiers are often employed as security or assassins for Central American drug cartels.
Can you imagine doing those background checks?
