The House of Representatives has officially voiced its disapproval of the recent conduct of the National Labor Relations Board, passing a bill to limit the NLRB’s authority. Unfortunately, there’s very little hope the measure will make it into law.
The Protecting Jobs from Government Act (H.R. 2587) provides that “the Board shall have no power to order an employer (or seek an order against an employer) to restore or reinstate any work, product, production line, or equipment, to rescind any relocation, transfer, subcontracting, outsourcing, or other change regarding the location, entity, or persons who shall be engaged in production or other business operations, or to require any employer to make an initial or additional investment at a particular plant, facility, or location.”
The bill was introduced on the heels of the NLRB’s well-publicized efforts to prevent aerospace giant Boeing from moving production of a new airliner to a non-union facilty.
A companion bill to H.R. 2587 was introduced last week by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R, SC). But it’s unlikely to make much headway in the Senate, where the Democrats still hold a majority.
