Listing desirable qualities in a job ad isn’t anything new: hard-working, able to multi-task, leadership qualities, etc. But have you ever had to ask for applicants who are wholesome?
The state-run Film Development Corporation (FDC) in Bangladesh is searching for 20 actors and actresses who will be its new group of “super heroes and heroines.”
The search became necessary after the country cracked down on lewd films. Any actors or actresses who’ve appeared in something considered obscene are no longer being cast by directors, according to wire service reports, thus the call for the new group of wholesome thespians.
So-called Dhaliwood produces up to 100 low-budget films a year, but an increase in violence and “dirty dancing” prompted the FDC to order a return to “wholesomeness.” In 2006, Bangladesh amended the censorship act so that filmmakers can be jailed for up to three years if their movies are judged to have “obscene, nude or vulgar” scenes.
