A French court has sentenced Dr. Michel Maure to three years in prison for posing as a plastic surgeon. Even though he was a licensed doctor, he didn’t have the necessary training in plastic surgery and endangered hundreds of patients by operating on them illegally in a Marseille clinic.
His patients reported the operations were often painful and unhygienic. About 100 of them complained of disfigurement and permanent damage to their health.
Maure has been on the run. Authorities in Spain captured him on a luxury yacht.
Besides the prison term, Maure has been ordered to pay a $120,000 fine and to compensate his victims.
French media reported Maure had proclaimed himself “one of the greatest surgeons in the world.”
