A recent study of companies employing 50 or fewer employees found that premiums rose in 2010 as employers’ staff size decreased.
America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), a national trade association representing the health insurance industry, recently took a look at the health insurance premiums of nearly 477,000 employers with fewer than 50 employees.
Some of its findings:
- $446 was the average monthly premium for single coverage at firms with 10 or fewer employees
- $419 was the average premium at firms with 11 to 25 employees, and
- $406 was the average premiums at firms with 26 to 50 employees.
The average premium for single coverage amongst all the employers studied was $426 per month or $5,107 annually. For family coverage, the average amongst all the employers studied was $1,117 per month or $13,409 annually.
