A report notes that one type of bank has received lots of applications recently, possibly because of the down economy. Just be glad these aren’t the applicants HR pros have to interview.
We’re talking about sperm banks and egg donation centers.
CryoGam Colorado notes the number of donor applications has spiked exponentially over the past few months, according to KMGH-TV.
In 2007, CryoGam had 150 applicants. In January alone they had 172. They’ve had more than 400 since September.
CryoGam chalks it up to the slumping economy.
Doctors at fertility clinics have also seen a spike in applications from prospective egg donors. Egg donors can earn in the ballpark of $10,000 for their time and effort, which includes a battery of health and psychological screenings.
CryoGam would not reveal how much a sperm donor can earn. Prospective donors have to fill out a 17-page application.
Applying to be a sperm donor may have one similarity to applying for a job these days: Not many people are accepted. CryoGam said out of 400 applicants since September, only four have been accepted.
