A shrine in India had problems with employees stealing money. Its solution didn’t sit well with the human rights commission.
Here’s a dress code you’ll never have to enforce: No underwear at work.
But that’s exactly what was required for employees at a shrine in India.
The authorities at the Sabarimala shrine reported thefts from the temple’s strongroom.
Solution: Require the all-male staff in the vault where donations are counted to work without shirts and wear a dhoti – a cotton wrap worn around the waist – and nothing else underneath.
The workers’ union complained to the human rights commission that this was degrading. The commission agreed.
The shrine says it will stop the practice, and now will have to look into electronic surveillance, according to wire service reports.
