An employee was fired just before she was about to file a formal complaint that her supervisor was asking her to run personal errands. Now the employer has to pay the fired worker.
Former employee Yakima Washington claimed Detroit City Council President Monica Conyers asked her to run personal errands.
Now Washington will receive a $90,000 settlement.
She had to sue for breach of contract after the city reneged on an agreement to pay her $90,000 through its claims process, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Earlier, city council’s Internal Operations Committee approved a resolution proposing binding arbitration with Washington, who worked for Conyers in 2006 and 2007.
But a new proposal, bypassing the committee’s recommendation, was approved by a seven-to-one council vote. Conyers voted for the settlement.
