This could be the lamest job-building campaign of all time.
Workforce Central Florida, a federally funded state agency that provides support services to the unemployed, recently came up with an … unusual public relations campaign.
Called the “Cape-A-Bility Challenge,” the program featured a cartoon character named “Dr. Evil Unemployment,” according to a recent story in the Orlando Sentinel.
And here’s the really cool part: The agency planned to hand out 6,000 red superhero capes to unemployed people.
We can’t understand why, but the program — which cost $73,000 ($14k for the capes alone) — was met with some unkind words from other Florida officials.
Those words included the terms “insensitive” and “wasteful.” The program was suspended.
We don’t get it. What eager job seeker wouldn’t jump at the chance to show up at an interview wearing a bright red cape?
