Based on a tip, a Las Vegas newspaper found several construction employees drinking before reporting to work.
Three of the 10 workers observed by the Review-Journal drinking at area bars before entering a job site have been fired.
Doug Mure, the general contractor’s vice president of human resources and risk management, said, “We will terminate all individuals who can be identified.” Mure says the company has a no-tolerance approach to this type of behavior and is working to identify more workers in photos taken by the newspaper.
Union rules prohibit anyone who has been drinking from entering a work site.
Construction safety is a current hot topic in Las Vegas because of 12 construction-related deaths that have occurred on projects along The Strip in the last 18 months.
