Ever worry that a fired employee will return and try to do something stupid?
A North Carolina restaurant fired an employee for stealing. Maybe it should have fired him for stupidity.
The Oriental Harbor Deli Bistro fired busboy/dishwasher Shawn Messina. He’s suspected of stealing tips.
Police say Messina returned to the restaurant two hours after he was fired to rob it at gunpoint.
Messina allegedly entered the back of the restaurant wearing a ski mask. Not only did an employee recognize his voice when he announced the robbery, but he also called one of his former co-workers by name!
The restaurant’s chef says Messina pulled out a 9mm handgun, so he gave him money from the cash register.
If Messina really did rob a business where he was easily identifiable, that was stupid mistake No. 1. But Messina reportedly had a second act.
Police didn’t have to look too hard to find him. They say, after the robbery, he went back home.
He was arrested after briefly running into some woods by his house.
Messina’s bail was set at $75,000.
One more goofy detail to this story: Apparently, Messina didn’t want to tell his mother, whom he lived with, that he got fired for stealing. He told her he got fired for not wearing a white shirt to work.
So when Messina returned, allegedly to rob the place – you guessed it – he was wearing a white shirt.
