Trends in training & development

Training has never been more critical to retaining great employees and preserving your organization’s skills base and passing down institutional knowledge.
HR Morning’s readers are acutely aware of just how important a role training and development plays.
Even as we all struggle with the challenges spawned by the coronavirus T&D is consistently among the areas our membership wants to read about.
In our most recent customer survey, 55% tagged Employee Training & Development as their top area of interest.
As organizations work to meet the need for specific skill sets, 45% say they are upskilling employees for their current jobs, according to Adecco Group’s Compensation and Workforce Trends survey. An additional 35% are retraining employees to be redeployed to other areas of their organization.
T&D investment is huge, but is it effective?
Meanwhile, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation has released a white paper that highlights the need to shift how we approach training investments.
The paper points out that U.S. private sector training and development investment remains massive — an estimated $28 billion a year for tuition reimbursement, $177 billion for formal education and training, and over $400 billion for informal training.
But, the authors emphasize, there is little solid data on what works and what doesn’t and an urgent need for organizations to develop and implement training and development best practices.
To help keep you up to date on the latest training insights from experts and from your peers, here’s a quick look at popular HR Morning training & development stories and webinars from the last year.
