Make a Bigger Impact with Your Benefits with the Right Choices | 2-Minute Video
Choosing benefits isn’t a check-the-box activity for employees anymore. Employees want — and need — benefits that fit their lives.
Notice, we didn’t say they need more. They need the right benefits so they can use them and manage them to the fullest.

It’s almost open enrollment season. So it’s only natural that we talk about benefits in this episode of the 3-Point. Here we have an expert who explains how you can find and offer options that will positively impact employees the most. Where to start …
Amy Mosher, Chief People Officer, isolved: “Employers, they absolutely still need that strong core health coverage, retirement, paid leave, that type of thing. But the opportunity is to surround that core with more flexible options that employees can select. There’s benefit packages, mental health support, chiropractic care, wellness, whatever wellness means to them, right? Pet insurance, additional leave options for specific situations, really just different plan structures that will help them to choose their own adventure.”
Naturally, you can’t offer every benefit under the sun. But you need to offer the right benefits. How do you know what those are?
Mosher: “Survey, survey, survey, survey, survey, survey. We actually ask employees; we don’t make it anonymous. We are able to slice and dice and do the data analysis on their response by demographic, by location, by tenure. We can understand whether there are certain value sets that think certain ways and value certain things, and that allows us, that helps us to make decisions around the impact of our benefit offerings.”
Hear that? The impact matters. You don’t just offer everything everyone asks for. You think about what will have the best impact on employees’ lives. Now you’ve made the effort to build a package with a punch. What’s next?
Mosher: “We campaign it back when we choose our benefits as part of open enrollment. And make sure they understand that this was their choice, these were their choices. Even if we couldn’t choose what everyone wanted, we chose what the majority wanted or what we felt would have the most value or the most impact to our existing organization.”
There’s another step – feedback. Employees can make their case for something that didn’t make the cut. Or they can complain about something they hate. More on that in another episode! For now, let’s focus on getting employees the benefits that work:
- Make the core benefits the best you can. Medical, retirement, leave. Everyone wants those.
- Survey. Ask employees what else would improve their lives.
- Choose. The point is to offer what will have the biggest impact on the most employees.
