When you work in HR, there’s always a challenge. Or a decision to be made. Or an opportunity ahead. And this episode of HRMorning’s 3-Point will help you with all of those. Our expert will introduce you to Mastermind Time and how you can practice it quickly and effectively. Let’s jump in …
Jenna Armato, CEO, Armato & Associates Training and Development: “Mastermind Time is the opportunity for peer thinking. The opportunity to bring forward a challenge that you’re experiencing or an opportunity on the horizon, a decision you might be thinking about, the opportunity to get some collective insight from the people around the table.“
So nearly anyone can use the power of the masses to solve problems, seek clarity or get new ideas. But Armato said it’s not just a matter of sitting around and talking.
Armato: “It’s executed with having a facilitator who opens up a door for having a conversation. There are a few different methods and models to utilize.”
You see, Mastermind Time needs to have some structure. But it doesn’t need to be the same structure all the time. Here’s one cool way to master Mastermind Time.
Armato: “A method that I’ve learned from my mentor through experience and working with clients is the Red Light, Yellow Light, Green Light System. Green light is, ‘Let’s go around and celebrate a win, a success. What’s progress or a win look like for you?’ Red light is, ‘Hey, I have something. It’s pressing. It’s urgent, I need some time with the group to talk about it.’ Yellow light is, ‘There’s something on the horizon. It’s not something pressing or an urgent challenge. But I want to talk about it before it gets here.‘”
Now to get the most out of Mastermind Time, you’ll want to:
- Recognize the issue. Identify the challenge, decision or opportunity that you need to explore with others.
- Get a leader. Find a facilitator. You want someone who keeps the conversation on track and makes sure everyone stays focused on the subject and moves toward the goal of getting the issue resolved.
- Choose a method. You can use Armato’s Traffic Light System. But really, there are countless numbers of brainstorming and idea-generating methods in any AI search.
And for the times you can’t pull a group together, you have other resources at your fingertips. On the HRMorning website, under the Blueprints tab, we have deep dives into better decision-making and problem-solving to help busy HR pros like you. Thanks for watching this episode.
