Washington Employers Face New I-9 Inspection Notice Rules Oct. 1
Washington employers must display a new workplace poster under the state’s Immigrant Worker Protection Act.
The state Attorney General’s Office released the poster, along with model employee notices and employer guidance, on Sept. 1, 2026, ahead of the law’s Oct. 1, 2026, effective date.
The AGO provides two separate notices: One for the I-9 inspection event itself, which must be posted where all workers can see it, and one for affected employees. All materials are available in English, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.
Under the law, employers must inform workers within five business days after receiving a federal notice of inspection of workers’ employment-eligibility documents, including Form I-9s.
