An assisted living facility located in Eustis, Florida, has agreed to pay $39,000 and take other steps to end a lawsuit that accused it of illegally discriminating against a job applicant based on her pregnancy.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued Excel Hospitality Group LLC, which does business as Regency Park Assisted Living & Memorial Care, on behalf of a woman who applied for a position as a caregiver at the facility.
The suit said the employer violated Title VII when it rescinded a job offer after the woman mentioned that she was pregnant.
In addition to paying $39,000 in damages, the employer will update its policy regarding pregnancy discrimination; provide training about pregnancy discrimination; produce semi-annual reports for the EEOC; and post a notice.
