What’s the Next Great– the HR trend that comes after so many “Greats” that weren’t exactly great?

You remember the Great Resignation, Great Reopening and Great Regret, right? And what about the less-than-ideal quitting — Quiet and Rage?

When you’re in HR, they all sucked.

Make the best of the Next Great

But there are brighter days ahead. We’re confident.

In fact, most organizations plan to invest more in their employees, Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and training in coming years. There are new Great

Here, in our 3-Point from HRMorning video series, we talked with three experts in the field — people who’ve watched the pendulum swing for decades. They’ve seen trends come and go. Experience has also taught them how to ride out the trends, through good and bad.

The good news: It shouldn’t be so difficult to retain and engage employees. They’re settling in to the new norms, embracing their organizations and jobs. But you can’t just rest on the HR laurels: There’s plenty to be gained from the recent “Greats” — hopefully new initiatives geared toward what works well for employees and employers.

Watch and listen for more from a few of our panel of experts.

Transcript (edited for clarity):

Tired of getting blindsided by all the greats that weren’t so great for HR? You know them — the Great Resignation, the Great Regret, the Great Reopening.

And let’s not forget the Quiets — Quitting, Firing, Hiring.

Fortunately, it looks like it’s time for some positive HR trends starting with this one: In a Vistage survey of CEOs, 80% of them said they plan to invest more in their employees and managers. They want their people to stay and do well now with some stability.

So, what’s next? And how can HR get ready?

Brad Karsh is the CEO of JB Solutions. He’s watched the labor market fluctuate for decades and says it’s time for …

Karsh: The great balance. I love that. That’s great. But I think the pendulum is swung such that there is a demand for workers, there is a fight to make sure that you’re retaining and engaging your employees. And I think at some point that pendulum is going to start to swing back.

There’s also an opportunity to reflect and act on what we’ve learned from the other greats.

Leschke-Kahle: The next thing is the great reset, the great reset of work. We are at an amazing inflection point that if we take advantage of it as employers, as leaders can really lead to work being much better than it is today.

And maybe it will be about positive change.

Link: The next great is the Great Reconciliation. And I believe that’s absolutely true. We even talk about that because now we’ve had all of these very interesting things going on in our society, both on the macro and the micro level. And now it’s time for people and organizations who have gone through and made decisions based on something that was contemporary or a spur of the moment. Now, both those employees and those companies are having to rethink and reconsider the actions that they’ve undertaken.

The next great at your company can be what you make of it. And regardless of the direction it takes, HR will want to:

  • Reflect. Find the positives and negatives that came with the changes in the past few years.
  • Realign. Set a new brighter vision for HR and your organization.
  • Redesign. Build a better employee experience around that vision.

So whether it’s the Great Balance, Reset, Reconciliation or something else altogether, you can make it great for your company.
